Paychecks in Kentucky

  • Kentucky withholds a flat 3.5% in 2026 on yearly wages minus a $3,360 standard deduction, with no filing status, allowances or dependents.
  • Form K-4 is used only to claim an exemption or request extra withholding, and because every employer applies the standard deduction, someone with more than one job may need $117.60 a year in extra withholding.
  • Many Kentucky cities and counties, including Louisville Metro, Lexington-Fayette and Northern Kentucky jurisdictions, levy occupational license taxes on wages; the calculator does not include them, but you can enter a custom local rate.
  • There is no state-run disability or paid leave deduction, and Kentucky's reciprocity agreements with Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Virginia and West Virginia cover state income tax only.
