Paychecks in Florida

What Florida taxes instead
Florida's constitution (Article VII, Section 5) bars a state income tax on individuals, so wages, Social Security, pensions and investment income are all free of state income tax. The state relies instead on a 6% sales tax, which local surtaxes raise to about 7% on average, and on property taxes and tourism.
A primary home gets a homestead exemption of up to $51,411 of assessed value in 2026: $25,000 off all property taxes and another $26,411, indexed to inflation, off taxes other than school taxes.
Watch: On the November 3, 2026 ballot: Amendment 3 would raise the non-school homestead exemption to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, if 60% of voters approve it (checked October 29, 2026).
