What Nevada taxes instead

Nevada's constitution (Article 10, Section 1) says no income tax shall be levied on the wages or personal income of individuals, so changing it would take a constitutional amendment. Paychecks have no state income tax and no state payroll deduction for employees.

Much of the state's revenue comes from sales taxes, which average over 8% with local taxes, and from gaming and tourism. Businesses with more than $4 million of Nevada gross revenue also pay the Commerce Tax.
