Paychecks in Maine
- Maine withholds in three brackets, 5.8%, 6.75% and a top rate of 7.15% in 2026, after subtracting $5,300 per Form W-4ME allowance and a standard deduction ($12,850 single, $28,550 married) that phases out at higher incomes.
- In August 2026 Maine revised its tables for a higher standard deduction and a new 2% surcharge on income over $1,000,000 (single) or $1,500,000 (married); the calculator uses the revised tables, so earlier 2026 stubs may differ slightly.
- Maine Paid Family and Medical Leave lets employers deduct up to 0.5% of wages up to the $184,500 Social Security wage base, taken after taxes, and the calculator assumes the full 0.5%.
- Maine has no local income taxes, W-4ME allowances are no longer based on the federal W-4, and a bonus paid separately may be withheld at a flat 5%.
