Paychecks in Maryland
- Maryland withholds state tax in brackets from 4.75% (the legal minimum for withholding) up to a top rate of 6.50% in 2026, on wages minus a $3,400 standard deduction and $3,200 per Form MW507 exemption.
- Every county and Baltimore City adds a local income tax on the same base, from 2.25% in Worcester County to 3.30% in Dorchester and Kent, and the calculator includes all of them.
- Anne Arundel and Frederick counties use graduated local rates, and because the Comptroller does not say exactly how employers apply them, the calculator applies one reading of the published brackets, so some payroll systems may differ.
- Nonresidents from states without reciprocity pay no county tax but a special 2.25% state tax instead, and Maryland's paid family and medical leave (FAMLI) deductions do not begin until January 2027.
