What Wyoming taxes instead
Wyoming has no personal or corporate income tax. Taxes on oil, gas, coal and other minerals are a major source of state revenue, which helps keep the sales tax, at 5.4% on average with local taxes, among the lowest in the country.
Since 2025 a primary home is exempt from property tax on 25% of the first $1,000,000 of its market value; from 2026 the owner must live there at least eight months of the year.
Watch: On the November 3, 2026 ballot: Proposition 1 would exempt 50% of a primary home's assessed value from property tax, starting no earlier than 2027 (checked October 29, 2026).
